Applewood Log Homes was named after the 20 acre apple orchard that surrounded the first log home that Don and Marlyn Shellabarger built in 1996. The site included about 2,000 apple trees, a country store, a cider mill, several gift shops and a bed and breakfast inn. It was an event to visit their model home. It had what most log home buyers want --open spaces, few walls, a loft and cathedral ceilings. Don designed it himself and others fell in love with all the extras. Don believes it is essential to show what a log home could be using the finest pine or cedar wood, stone and modern showcase windows that leave you breathless. He wants people to have the benefit of seeing the products up close where they can see the quality.

This was the start of the adventure. Now the Shellabargers have set up shop in Brookville, Ohio right off of I-70 minutes from Dayton International Airport. The 8-acre semi-wooded area will have 5 models and a training and demonstration center. Don, Marlyn, son Ty (pictured below with his wife and children) and daughter Tara (pictured with her husband) are living and working off this winding road of log homes. They want to help others have a close first hand look into the open living of log home life. People are looking for something beyond that sterile tract home in a subdivision somewhere, where all the homes look alike.
